The Season of Lights

Magic lights
Magic lights

This is my second winter here, and after celebrating another birthday in Copenhagen,

I stopped and wanted to notice how the light changes with each season.

You’re more than welcome to join and read my stories, see my photos, and I hope they will be interesting for you as well.

Copenhagen feels full of lights this time of year: candles, stars in the windows,

Juledekoration, spicy hot Gløgg and warm Kakao, as well as Ice rinks and Christmas markets everywhere.

Despite the cold,( and this winter being considered a warm one) people still move through the streets, buying gifts, food, or just trying to get home before it gets dark again.  Not an easy task when the sun sets around 15:30!

Jul and Hanukkah both celebrate the same idea, finding light when the days are short and dark. It’s a small reminder to notice the changes and color that exist even in these darker colder months.

It surprises me how much light matters here during this time. People decorate, gather for warm drinks or hot porridge, and light candles every single day.

It’s not only because of the holidays; it’s a way to make the dark months softer and easier to deal with.

I’ve noticed that even short days have their own kind of magic and soft light.

You just can stop and notice just and make sure you have a warm jacket, a good hat, gloves, and a scarf. Now you’re ready. 😊

Maybe that’s also why I started writing again, to share these small impressions and thoughts, how the city changes, and how those changes affect me too.

Vi ses næste gang. Hope to see you next time
